Choose JPG, PNG or WebP for the job

Separate the master file from the delivery file

The best archival or editing format is not always the best file to upload. Keep an editable master with layers, vectors and the intended color information. Export separate copies for marketplace listings, customer downloads and commercial printing. This prevents repeated conversion from slowly degrading the only copy you have.

JPG is efficient for photographs

JPEG compression works well on continuous-tone images such as photography, textured mockups and scanned artwork. It can produce small files with good visual quality, but every lossy re-encode discards information. High contrast text, line art and flat color boundaries can develop ringing or block artifacts.

JPEG does not support transparency. Transparent pixels must be flattened onto a chosen background, usually white for print delivery. Confirm the background before converting so edges do not acquire an unwanted halo.

PNG preserves crisp edges; WebP reduces web weight

PNG is a strong choice for transparent artwork, logos, diagrams and screenshots. It is lossless but can become very large for detailed photographs. WebP can encode photographs efficiently and also supports transparency, making it useful for listing previews and websites.

A print provider may not accept WebP even when a browser displays it perfectly. Convert the delivery copy to an accepted format while keeping the WebP preview separate.

A practical marketplace workflow

Export high-quality JPG listing images in the marketplace's recommended dimensions, use PNG where customers need transparency, package multi-page printables as a correctly sized PDF, and keep a larger master outside the delivery archive. Open every downloaded test file on a second device before publishing the listing.

• Do not judge quality only by file size.
• Avoid repeatedly converting JPG to JPG.
• Preserve a master before compression.
• Check marketplace limits and printer acceptance separately.
