What happens under the hood
This tool uses pdf.js to extract the selectable text layer from PDF pages and reconstruct paragraphs. It packages the extracted text into a standards-based EPUB 3 container with OPF metadata, navigation document and XHTML chapter. All processing happens locally in your browser without uploading your PDF.
Before you send the file
- Scanned PDFs need OCR first because page images do not contain a selectable text layer.
- Multi-column layouts, tables, footnotes and repeated headers may need cleanup after text extraction.
- The generated EPUB is a simple reading copy, not a guaranteed commercial publishing master.
Frequently asked questions
Can it convert a scanned PDF to EPUB?
Not directly. A scan contains images and needs optical character recognition before the text can be made reflowable.
Will the EPUB keep the exact PDF layout?
No. That would defeat reflow. The EPUB keeps extracted reading text while allowing an e-reader to change font size, margins and line length.
Is the generated EPUB valid?
It uses an EPUB 3 container, package document, navigation document and XHTML chapter. You should still inspect it on the devices and apps you plan to use.
